Jesus is a religious norms breaker! When he made a pit stop at Jacob's well outside of Sychar (town in Samaria), he came across a woman. This was not your average woman to Jews. She was a Samaritan. Understand that Jews and Samaritans did not interact with each other due to worshipping practices and intermarriage disagreements. (1 Judges). So, when Jesus stopped at the well and this Samaritan woman came up and Jesus asked for water, she was surprised. She was surprised because she could tell that Jesus was a Jew. Jews and Samaritans do not interact nor share dishes.
Jesus did not care about the religious babble from old traditions. If he cared, I would assume, he would not have spoken to the woman. Jesus cared about spreading the Good News. He cares about making disciples of men and women. He cares about developing a relationship with the people that is lost and maintaining the current relationships.
When Jesus was at the well, he wanted to let the Samaritan women know that he could give her living water! That he could quench her thirsty for the things that are dry in her life. That same goes for you! Jesus wants us to seek him for a relationship, so that you will know who to talk to in order to remain hydrated!
